Questions about server management

What counts as a server?

One virtual machine, VPS or dedicated server. Managed services such as a cloud database or storage bucket are covered along with the server they belong to. If you are unsure, send us a list and we will count it with you.

What happens if my server goes down?

Monitoring alerts us automatically. We investigate, fix what we can straight away and keep you updated until it is resolved. How quickly we respond depends on the plan you choose.

Are cloud and hosting bills included?

No. Your provider bills you directly. We will point out ways to reduce those bills where we can, such as removing unused resources or choosing a better-sized server.

Do you need full access to our servers?

We need admin access to manage them. We use our own named account with SSH keys, never shared passwords, and you can remove our access at any time.

Can you manage a server someone else set up?

Yes. We start by reviewing the current setup, fixing urgent security issues and documenting what is there. If bigger work is needed, we quote it separately before doing it.
